"tell each other right now"

"Death is a challenge. It tells us not to waste time... It tells us to tell each other right now that we love each other." ~ Leo F. Buscaglia

I learned a couple of weeks ago that someone who had a very profound impact on my life and its direction, died a year ago. It was a shock. Despite what I have come to know about life and living, I guess I always thought I would have a chance to have one more conversation, one more hug, one more laugh and one more chance to express my love. I did try to reach him a few times, but the last time I left a message he didn't call me back. That doesn't seem like a very good excuse for not trying harder.

His daughter is the one who contacted me. I guess she has been calling my home without leaving a message for over a year. She finally left a message and I called her back. She wants to meet with me. She read his letters and journals and generously let me know what she knows about how he felt. She has something she wants to give me and she wants me to meet her young daughter.. his granddaughter... and to tell me where his ashes are scattered. I haven't had a moment to meet with her because it has been really crazy at work. But if I am really honest, I am also feeling timid. very timid....

"I wanted a perfect ending. Now I've learned, the hard way, that some
poems don't rhyme, and some stories don't have a clear beginning,
middle, and end. Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking
the moment and making the best of it, without knowing
what's going to happen next."-Gilda Radner

dancing in the rain

Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain.

~unknown author

I don't know if I agree with that or not, but I like the sound and feel of it. Motivating phrases and words particularly attract me. Does that say something about me? Does that convey a deeper need or something that I have missed defining? A symptom? A sign?

Of course, as I imagine of everyone who loves to read, I am always delighted to find (read, discover, hear) the well turned phrase, the clever bit of language that describes something exactly, or humorously or in a way that I hadn't though of previously. I am particularly fond of language that nails a difficult, weighty thought or idea perfectly in a concise amount of words.

I am just as easily enamored of the simple thoughts, if joyful sounding enough....
