Quick sand...

Caught in a trap of my own devising, the weight of aloneness in a home full of people makes it difficult to climb out of this hole.

Sinking faster than I have the energy to counter, the oblivion of sleep is denied once again.

It is harder to refocus thoughts and attitude in the night and weariness makes a harder edge to all.

mini update

The interview for the masters degree program went well.. though there are 43 applicants for 25-27 slots. I will know how I fared in about two weeks.

Things are busy around the end of the quarter- too many internship hours to complete and lots of end of the quarter projects, papers and finals to study for..

I am not sure where I will do my final internship for the summer and it is late for finding a new one.

I am still waiting for the authorization to take 20 units for summer- one of them is a directed study so I can take American Sign Language and have it count for my upper division degree elective requirements.

This has become my version of normal- everything seems like running a race; nothing is ever completely settled; everything is always something new to deal with.

Tomorrow counts

I wanted to post something before midnight, but I didn't make it. Today was busy with all sorts of things, most of them academic, but one was about a possible job that would fit with classes and future internship hours.

Wednesday at 1 PM is my interview for the masters program. I have alternated between being too busy to think about it and being nervous. I am actually seldom nervous for interviews of any kind unless I am completely winging it, and even then being able to focus on others (even if I have to force myself to do that) and not reflect in the moment on what they are thinking about me, tends to negate any nervousness that occurs.

But before and after, I do know I am being evaluated when they are interviewing me. Tomorrow really counts more than many other interviews. There are several outcomes for my future that depend on it. Among the more mundane it means a future difference in salary which in the social services field is quite a bit. It means a future direction that could include the difference between being closely supervised or not and being free to use all my skills in the way I see best to do the job at hand.

It appears I am among the first interviews for the available slots for the program. I haven't decided if that is good or bad.

Tomorrow counts and tonight I am nervous.

update

Good news: I have figured out a way to make up the internship hours I am behind and in the program that I really want to work for. Bad news: I will be working about 18 hours a week in addition to my 14 units of classes. More bad news: I have papers and things due on a pretty much continuous basis until the end of the quarter. I am not sure when I am supposed to sleep.

Good news: My son got his first stage dream job headed towards his goal- PT assistant at the local hospital. The ultimate goal is to be a Physical Therapist, but it requires a masters degree and is a long ways off. His serious motorcycle accident last summer, had one good side effect- he made some very good friends and contacts with the physical therapy department.

Writing Prompts

Nice collection of links for writing prompts found here. I have been writing, just nothing that I want to put on the blog or else academic stuff that isn't particularly interesting to me, but has to be written. Maybe one of these prompts will give me inspiration next week.

So Very Posh - Blog - Journal Writing Prompts

Link found via MamaWrite.

Oh, and I ought to be writing more of that academic stuff, or cleaning, or running errands- instead of reading blogs- I can find thousands of ways to procrastinate all the "ought to" stuff. ;-)

What color is your brain?

One answer changed and I get a different result. Both answers are true part of the time, but not all of the time. Both results fit different parts of me too- Green or Blue or perhaps a little of both. (Quizilla won't let me post both images).

Answering questions

In answering any specific question, "there may be more than one truth".

On "poetic license", résumés and helping clients - from Prof. Stoneburner's lecture 05/05/04

This seems obvious to me (on so many different levels), but apparently it isn't to a rather diverse group of classmates and future counselors taking a career counseling class.

Monday Question

#14. Fill in the blank:

I am happiest when I... ?

Wandering links

Wandering links, I stumbled on Wordsmith.org and A.Word.A.Day, part of the same site, where I found among other things, this: "To give pleasure to a single heart by a single kind act is better than a thousand head-bowings in prayer. -Saadi, poet (c. 1200 AD)"
and a link to this site: Oxymoronica.com where I found this and others: "A writer is somebody for whom writing is more difficult than it is for other people. ~Thomas Mann"

The Paradoxical Commandments

A snippet:
"People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.
Love them anyway.
If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
Do good anyway.
If you are successful, you win false friends and true enemies.
Succeed anyway.
The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.
Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
Be honest and frank anyway."

"up, in the morning"

Writing Prompts- up, in the morning

Up, in the wee hours of the morning without having gone to sleep, my perspective on the world and life can sometimes be completely different than it is after I have slept. Alone, my thoughts can slip into colors that match the night. In the daytime I want at least fifty more active years to touch the world. In the sunlight and out in the world, on most days I am present in each moment and I want to laugh, sing when I feel like it, and dance when the mood strikes me. But in these early hours of morning, I don't know if I can really handle much more of being alone in the dark. I want to see my son out on his own in the world, living a happy life- and then???? The thought of an endless stretch of nights alone brings more sadness and ache than I want to feel.

Up, in the morning, the world will sparkle again. Sunlight streaming in through the windows and birds singing their morning songs will banish any lingering remnants of the dark. I will forget until the next time.

Not sure what I would do with it -but I want one

Reading Wil Wheaton's blog, he mentions this device. I rather like the whole idea of it, especially the orb.

Though initially I couldn't tell from the website, apparently the devices can be configured to moniter whatever you tell them to- specific sender email or voice mail messages, weather, traffic conditions for specific routes, stock prices and so on.

They also can apparently turn everyday objects into these kinds of moniters. I have no idea what I would do with one (I don't really need any of those things monitered) and they are still a little pricey for me to buy, but the concept suits the part of me that likes attractive new gadgets.
